New Lens Caps!
Posted on September 17, 2014 by Sean MacDonald
Finally, Canon has updated their lens caps to a center pinch design. Many photographers have been asking for this for a long time. Nikon, Tamron, Sony and Sigma already use this style. I had a feeling it was coming when I went to order some more lens caps from Canon and was told they were discontinued. I asked my rep if they were coming out with a new design, hopefully a center pinch style. Looks like I was right on the money!
The significant benefit of the new design is for those who use lens hoods. As you can see from the pictures below, the 135 f2 has a long, non-flower style hood which makes it extremely difficult to get your fingers between the hood and the sides of the lens cap. Most people resort to taking the hood off, installing the lens cap, and then put the hood back on. This is inconvenient at best. With the new center pinch design, you can reach all the way down the hood while still pinching the cap. This makes putting it on and taking it off much easier.
Canon is however charging a couple bucks more for the new design. The previous model were priced at $8, and the new design is $10. Its not going to break the bank, but it would have been nice to keep the same pricing. Feel free to stop down and pick one up. I just received the 58, 67 and 72mm today. I should be getting the 52, and 77 sizes in the next couple days.
And don't forget about out Grand Opening party tomorrow and all the free prizes we are giving away!
